Citrix Wants to Be the Toll Booth for Enterprise AI. Don't Mistake Free for Cheap.

Their core value proposition is that they can sit in the middle of the enterprise network and execute policy in a single pass, which is a direct response to the latency sensitivity of LLM applications. A single serial pass through a gateway matters when token generation delays are already an order of magnitude higher than a traditional REST API call. And here is the core of the analysis that gets missed. The real feature is not the load balancer—that is table stakes. The real feature is Token-level rate limiting. Citrix is partnering with Protecto for data classification and Enkrypt AI for threat detection. Yes, they provide the visibility, but they are not an AI-security firm. They are a traffic governance firm. If the promise is to be the "guardian" of the AI-agent frontier, they are relying on third-party tools to do the actual security work. After my 2025 audit of AI-agent execution logic, I saw exactly what happens when the security stack is connected but not integrated—the latency of decision-making across vendors creates vulnerabilities.
